The Family Connection

Snippets Racing took its name from the family's deep roots in Australian thoroughbred racing and breeding.

Andrew Augustine was born into a racing and breeding family as the son of John Augustine, a colourful owner and breeder in the Victorian racing and breeding scene.

When Andy was 11, his father remarried and together with his wife Jane operated the successful Gregadoo Stud. The most successful horse they bred was a Lunchtime colt out of the mare Easy Date who would go on to race as Snippets.

When Snippets was put through the first ever Magic Millions Yearling Sale in 1986, the astute judges overlooked him. Free of Star Kingdom blood and looking a little bit rough around the edges, the yearling did not reach the reserve of $30,000 set by John Augustine.

John bought the colt back home to the family's stud farm for $22,000 and syndicated him to friends while retaining a 20% share. The rest, as they say, is history. Snippets would go on to be an equine superstar both on the track and as a stallion—becoming a champion sire and leaving a legacy through his son Snitzel and grandson Black Caviar.

When Andy established Snippets Racing in 2020, naming the business after his family's champion horse was a way to honour that heritage and continue the tradition of introducing people to the thrill of thoroughbred ownership—just as his father had done with the original Snippets syndicate.

During our time operating from 2020 to 2025, we were proud to carry the Snippets name and uphold the family's reputation for integrity and passion for the sport.

In 2023, Andy worked with Magic Millions to have their feature sprint race renamed "The SNIPPETS" in honor of the inaugural Magic Millions winner ensuring the legacy continues on one of Australia's biggest racing stages.
